The Dari Project co-sponsors a screening of a groundbreaking South Korean gay independent film to a sold-out theater at the NewFEST LGBT Film Festival in New York City.
June 6, 2007
The Dari Project presents a screening of the 2006 queer Korean film, "No Regret" (후회하지 않아), on Wednesday, June 6, 7:45 pm, at the NewFest LGBT film festival.
This was the U.S. premiere of the film and screened to a sold-out theater. John Won says a few words at the beginning of the screening and Dari Project makes information available afterward as film viewers leave.
Directed By: Leesong Hee-il
South Korea, 2006, 114 min
When Su-min, an orphan from the country, comes to Seoul to further his studies, he has no idea that he will have to work as a prostitute in a gay bar to support himself. When he attracts the attention of an upper-class man, Jae-min, initial resistance gives way to genuine feelings. Can these two men, from vastly different socio-economic backgrounds, find love together? When familial obligations rear their ugly head, is tragedy and heartache far behind? No Regret is a sensitively handled story of unexpected love that crosses social class and gender.

“At Dari Project, we love a good story, and No Regret is a great one, so we hope you enjoy the film. But there are so many other amazing stories in our community that no one’s ever heard of, stories of hope, coming out, families coming together, members of faith communities struggling…
It’s easy for a lot of us, especially folks living here in New York City, to take for granted all the positive gay images in the media in the past few years, but the reality is that almost none of these messages reach Korean and immigrant communities like in Flushing, none of them get translated to Korean…
Dari Project is committed to making sure all these stories reach our communities, our parents and grandparents, not just in English but in Korean…”
